Former India batter Ambati Rayudu has shed new light on one of the most talked-about moments from the T20 World Cup 2024 final. The match against South Africa turned dramatically when Suryakumar Yadav caught David Miller at the boundary — a moment that sparked controversy after replays suggested the boundary rope had been moved.

On the Unfiltered PodcastRayudu, who was part of the commentary team that day, revealed what really happened. He said the world feed crew, responsible for the global broadcast, had placed a chair and a screen near the rope to assist the broadcasters, which pushed the boundary line back slightly. Even after the equipment was removed, the rope was never put back in its original place.

There were world feed commentators. During the break, what usually happens is they put a chair there and a screen in order to help the broadcasters see what is happening. That is why they pushed the rope backwards a little bit. But, they left it like that (even after taking the screen and the chair away). That is how the boundary became a little bigger for us. We (the commentators) could see it from above. It was god’s plan,” said Rayudu during the chat on the podcast.

When asked if David Miller’s shot should have been given a six, Suryakumar Yadav gave an honest response: “I really don’t know. If the boundary rope had been at its normal spot, maybe I would have started my run from a different position.”

Amid the debate, Ambati Rayudu firmly defended the effort, calling it fair. “For me, it was a clean catch. At the end of the day, God was on our side,” Rayudu said.

While a few cricketers raised questions about the rope placement, the controversy soon fizzled out.
