Cricket News Desk. Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is facing criticism after playing only three Test matches out of five on England tour. Many veteran players have raised questions as to why they played only three matches and how can one player be allowed to choose the match as per their will. But former selector of the Indian cricket team Chetan Sharma has supported Jaspreet Bumrah. He says that players should accept the advice of physio as they can take the best decision.
Bumrah played the first, third and fourth Tests on England tour. It has already been decided that he will play only three Test matches. Former fast bowler Chetan Sharma said that any patient has to accept the advice of a doctor. He said this on Doordarshan on the occasion of Prasar Bharati’s agreement with London -based cricket analysis company Cricwiz to broadcast 104 episodes of ‘The Great Indian Cricket Show’ on Doordarshan. He said, ‘If the medical team advises, if the doctor tells me that I want to take antibiotics, then I have to take it. If our physio is asking a player to do a workload management, then I think we should listen to him because he considers things better.
Bumrah had to resort to workload management due to back injury
Former captains like Mohammad Azharuddin and Dilip Vengsarkar took Bumrah to play only three Tests. He had said that the player should not be allowed to do so. However, it has been revealed that Bumrah played three Tests in England only after the BCCI medical team advice. He suffered another back injury during his tour of Australia in January 2025. Because of this, he stayed away from cricket for four months. Earlier in 2022, Bumrah also suffered a similar injury. Then he had to undergo surgery and he did not play for at least a year. He returned just before the 2023 World Cup.
