Haryana: There is an important update for candidates preparing for the Haryana Civil Services Examination (HCS 2026). The state government has changed the pattern of the HCS exam. The preliminary exam will now be of 400 marks, comprising two papers. Significant changes have also been made to the main examination. New Pattern of Haryana Civil Services Examination
The Haryana Department of Information, Public Relations, Languages and Culture (Haryana DPR) has announced through the social media platform 'X' that the syllabus of the Haryana Civil Services (HCS) examination has been changed. The preliminary examination will now be of 400 marks, consisting of two objective-type question papers.
The main examination will be of a total of 600 marks, comprising 4 papers of General Studies and some descriptive question papers. Each paper will be of 3 hours duration and carry 100 marks. Candidates will now have to prepare according to the new pattern to perform better in the examination.
Old Pattern of Haryana Civil Services Examination
According to the old pattern, the Haryana Civil Services (HCS) preliminary examination consisted of two papers - General Studies and Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT), totaling 200 marks. The main examination consisted of four papers, with English and Hindi carrying 100 marks each, and General Studies and Optional Subject carrying 200 marks each. The main examination totaled 600 marks.
Now the exam pattern has changed. The preliminary exam will now be of 400 marks, and the main exam will have 6 papers. Two new papers have been included.
Understanding the Selection Process
The selection process will be conducted in three stages, including the preliminary examination, main examination, and interview. Only those candidates who qualify for the preliminary examination will be eligible to appear for the main examination, and only successful candidates in the main examination will be invited for the interview stage.
