Tezzbuzz Desk – A passenger plane of Turkish Airlines narrowly escaped becoming a victim of a major accident on Wednesday (February 4). As soon as the information about fire in the plane’s engine was received during the flight, the pilot showed wisdom and made an emergency landing at Kolkata Airport. All 236 passengers on board the plane are said to be completely safe.

Technical fault encountered in Kolkata’s airspace

According to airport sources, Turkish Airlines flight TK-727 had departed from Kathmandu, Nepal for Istanbul, Turkey. When the plane reached Kolkata airfield, the pilot noticed signs of fire from a part of the engine. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, the pilot immediately alerted Kolkata Air Traffic Control (ATC).

Emergency landing, relief teams on alert

As soon as permission was received from ATC, the aircraft landed on the runway with full caution. As a precautionary measure, fire brigade, medical team and other emergency services were already deployed at the airport. All passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft immediately after landing.

After the accident, the passengers have been accommodated at the airport terminal, while the technical inspection and repair work of the aircraft has been started. According to initial information, it is being ascertained whether the fire in the engine occurred due to mechanical failure or there was some other reason behind it.
