New Delhi: At the age of just 14, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has set a unique record in Indian cricket, due to which everyone’s eyes are on him. His brilliant performance against Afghanistan in the semi-finals of the 2026 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup not only took India to the final but also broke many old records.


The match was held on Wednesday, 4 February in Harare, Zimbabwe. Batting first, Afghanistan performed excellently. Faisal Shinozada’s 110 runs and Uzairullah Niazai’s golden innings of 101 runs helped the team reach the target of 310 runs, which is considered challenging for any semi-final match.


India’s excellent batting


Facing this challenge, the Indian team started playing without any pressure. Opening batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi showed aggressive play as soon as he came and laid the foundation of the team’s victory by scoring 68 runs in just 33 balls. His magnificent performance included four long sixes and several fours, which completely changed the course of the match.


Record of hitting most sixes


This inning of Vaibhav Suryavanshi made him the player who hit the most sixes for India in the Under-19 World Cup. His number of sixes in the tournament has now reached 15, leaving behind Sanju Samson and Gaurav Dhiman, who had earlier hit 12 sixes each.


Along with this, he has also set the record of hitting most sixes for India in a single edition, which was earlier in the name of Sanju Samson, who had hit 12 sixes in 2014.

Apart from Vaibhav, Aaron George also played a brilliant inning, in which he scored 115 runs and took the team very close to victory. Afghanistan’s bowlers proved unsuccessful against the level of Indian batsmen.


India achieved the set target easily and made it to the final with a resounding win. Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s role has been very important in this victory. Such a performance at such a young age shows that the future of Indian cricket is in good hands. Vaibhav Suryavanshi is no longer just a rising name but has become the new star of Indian Under-19 cricket.
