In its second Super-8 match of ICC T20 World Cup 2026, Team India has defeated Zimbabwe by 72 runs. In this match played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the Indian team lost the toss and batted first and scored 256 runs at the loss of 4 wickets, in response to which the Zimbabwean team could only reach 184 runs after playing 20 overs. With this victory, Suryakumar Yadav Brigade has kept alive its hopes of reaching the semi-finals.

West Indies are at second place with +1.791 net run rate and India are at third place with -0.100 net run rate. After this, in the remaining 8 overs, the Indian team scored 122 runs at the loss of 2 wickets. As a result, India set a big target of 256 runs for Zimbabwe at the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs.



Abhishek Sharma scored the highest score of 55 runs for India. Hardik Pandya scored unbeaten 50 and Tilak Verma scored 44 runs. For Zimbabwe, Richard Ngarwa, Blessing Muzarabani, Tinotenda Maposa and Sikandar Raza took one wicket each.

Chasing a big score, Zimbabwe got off to a good but slow start. In the first 12 overs, Zimbabwe scored 87 runs losing 2 wickets. In the remaining 8 overs the team scored 97 runs losing 4 wickets. As a result, Zimbabwe scored 184 runs losing 6 wickets. After this India won the match by 72 runs.



Brian Bennett scored the highest unbeaten 97 runs for Zimbabwe. Sikandar Raza also scored 31 runs. Arshdeep Singh took maximum three wickets for India. Varun Chakraborty, Akshar Patel and Shivam Dubey took one wicket each.

India has significantly improved its net run rate after defeating Zimbabwe. West Indies’ net run rate has declined significantly after losing to South Africa. Anyway, net run rate will no longer be a factor in India reaching the semi-finals. India will just have to defeat West Indies in its last Super 8 match, after which the Indian team will qualify for the semi-finals.
