Buckingham Palace is seeking new recruits to join the Royal Household. The position offers a "generous benefits package", but people should act quickly if interested, as the application deadline is approaching.
The Royals are recruiting a Kitchen Porter on a fixed-term contract at Buckingham Palace commencing this summer. The successful candidate, whose role runs until June 2028, would be granted accommodation on Royal grounds and would be based at the world-famous Palace that draws visitors from across the globe to London.
According to the advert posted online, this opportunity requires no prior experience. Applications for the Kitchen Porter vacancy close on Saturday, March 21, with the appointed person expected to start work in June 2026 on a fixed-term basis.
It's a full-time position involving up to 45 hours per week, Monday to Sunday. Royal staff will work five out of every seven days. Although stationed at Buckingham Palace, the role will involve working across various Royal residences during the year, reports OK!
Any experience "in a similar role would be an advantage", but not a requirement as full training will be provided on-site. Additional qualities that the Palace wants is someone who demonstrates genuine pride in their work, flourishes within a team setting, is "happy to get involved", and is "keen to develop their skills and gain experience within an exceptional team environment".
According to the job advert, the Kitchen Porter position will see the chosen candidate become part of a "highly accomplished team" that assists in "delivering food to the highest standards". The listing continues to outline the everyday responsibilities.
It reads: "You'll maintain the kitchen environment to ensure our chefs have all they need to deliver meals throughout the day. You'll clean equipment, surfaces, refrigeration, and utensils, making them ready for use, and assist with basic food preparation when required.
"Our team members work collaboratively, with the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of the kitchen. With training and support embedded in our team culture, you'll be encouraged to grow your skills."
The post doesn't specify a salary, but claims that wages were "competitive" alongsidee a range of other benefits. When outlining what advantages come from the royal position, the advert claims: "We know that to deliver our best work, we need to feel at our best. That's why at the Royal Household we offer a generous benefits package designed to support your wellbeing and life priorities."
The listing lists live-in accommodation with all meals included as a highly valued perk for this position. Staff will also receive 25 days of annual leave, increasing to 30 days (plus bank holidays), based on their length of service with the Royal Family.
The job advertisement further adds: "We also offer a range of leave options to support your life priorities, such as parental pay and leave and volunteering days, as well as benefits to support your physical and mental wellbeing. Other perks include 20% off at our Royal Collection Trust Shops and complimentary admission tickets across all our locations, along with many more exclusive employee discounts."
For someone with specialist experience, the Royal Kitchen is also seeking a Pastry Chef. Supporting the Head Pastry Chef, this role needs "proficiency in all pastry sections" such as tarts, cakes, canapes and afternoon teas, to name a few.
