A lip reader has deciphered the Royal Family's exchanges during the Commonwealth Day service. In what turned out to be the most significant assembly of senior royals since Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's arrest in February, high-ranking members of the Royal Family convened at Westminster Abbey yesterday (March 9).
Among those present for the annual service were King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, the Princess of Wales, and Princess Anne, alongside celebrities such as Geri Halliwell-Horner and Strictly's Oti Mabuse, and the prime minister, Sir Keir Starmer. Given the circumstances surrounding the former prince's arrest, coupled with demonstrations by the anti-monarchist group Republic outside the venue, it's unsurprising that all attention was focused on the royals. Now, lip reader Jeremy Freeman has provided insights into what The Firm's members might have been saying to each other as the event commenced, revealing everything from a cryptic remark to a playful comment.
In one snippet, William is seen chatting with his aunt, Princess Anne, whilst organ music resonates in the background. Jeremy told us that William said to Anne: "I agree, of course, that's another conversation."
At this juncture, the camera swivelled to the right, bringing Charles and Camilla into view. It remains unclear what this "conversation" pertained to.
Moving towards William, Charles gestured upwards with both hands, and William leant in and kissed his father on both cheeks before kissing Camilla. Charles remarked to William: "Oh, hello.."
Meanwhile, Camilla welcomed William: "Hello darling...good to see you."
Rebecca English, The Daily Mail's royal editor who shared the footage to X, commented: "Lovely scenes as members of the Royal Family greet each other at today's Commonwealth Day service at @wabbey - quite a bit of joking amongst the ladies about whether they should kiss given the size of their hats. Princess Anne made clear she wasn't even going to try."
Charles' three-word order to CamillaIn the same clip, it appeared that Camilla attempted to blow a kiss to Princess Catherine, both of whom wore wide-brimmed hats. Following this, Anne and her brother, Charles, embraced.
Charles remarked to Anne: "I'm good."
Charles then gently touched Camilla's arm from behind, and the royals took their positions in the abbey for the service. Charles instructed Camilla: "Quick, over here."
Catherine and Anne's awkward moment In a shorter clip from the same post, William shook the hand of Anne's husband, Sir Timothy Laurence. William remarked to Timothy: "Good to see you."
He then kissed his auntie on both cheeks and exchanged a few words. Anne remarked to William: "You alright? You look well..." as William responded: "Yep, I'm fab."
Anne then exclaimed "Mwaah!" to Catherine in the background as the princess entered the scene. Catherine greeted Timothy with a warm: "You look good."
She then moved towards Anne, offering a smile and a gentle touch on the arm. In a playful exchange, Anne asked Catherine: "Should I duck?".
A chuckling Catherine responded: "I know, I was thinking whether I should...."
Anne's cheeky remark to guardIn a third video clip broadcasted by Sky News, Anne and Timothy were seen arriving at the Abbey. As they approached the entrance, two guards stood at either side of the gateway.
Stepping through, Anne could be spotted sharing an exchange with one of the guards, who appeared to be laughing as she walked past. Anne said to him: "Looking good."
Anne and Timothy then paused to enjoy a band playing steel drums. Anne commented: "Very nice, too." She then turned to Timothy, remarking: "That was fun."
The pair then ascended the stairs to attend the service, with Anne noting: "Wonderful".
