A routine meet-up with a long-lost friend has ended in tragedy after a beloved television actress vanished - only to be discovered dead deep in woodland near her wrecked car. Magdalena Majtyka, 42, left home on March 4, telling family she was heading out to reconnect with an old high-school pal. It was the last time she was seen alive. Within hours, concern grew when she failed to return, sparking a desperate search and a formal police investigation. Days later, officers made a grim discovery. Her abandoned Opel Corsa was located on a remote road leading into dense forest near Biskupice Oawskie in southern Poland. The vehicle appeared to have collided with a tree and been left deserted, raising an immediate alarm. Just 24 hours after the car was found, Majtyka's body was discovered roughly 650 feet away in the woodland. Authorities have since ruled out injuries from the crash as the cause of death.

This has only deepened the mystery surrounding her final moments, with investigators also telling the public that there is currently no evidence of a third party being involved.

Public prosecutor Damian Pownuk confirmed further tests are underway to determine exactly what happened. He said: "Histological and toxicological tests" would be carried out on the actress's body. He added: "Based on these results, experts will determine the final, definitive cause of death."

Majtyka's distraught husband, filmmaker Piotr Bartos, had earlier issued a public plea on social media as the search intensified, hoping for news of her safe return.

Instead, confirmation of her death sent shockwaves through Poland's entertainment industry and among fans who had followed her career for years.

The actress was widely recognised for her roles in the long-running soap operas Na Wspólnej and Pierwsza Mio, where she built a loyal audience and reputation as a much-loved performer.

Police continue to treat the case as unexplained while awaiting forensic analysis results. Investigators are working to piece together her final movements, including who she had planned to meet and why she ended up on the isolated forest road.

Her sudden death comes amid another violent loss in the entertainment world overseas. Singer and influencer Nancy Grewal, 45, was recently killed in a stabbing at a home in Windsor, southern Canada.

Emergency services responded to reports of an attack on Todd Lane and found her suffering multiple wounds. She was rushed to the hospital but later died from her injuries.

The prosecutor's office also did not disclose whether the deceased's husband had been questioned yet. When asked about any items found in the car that could help clarify the case, prosecutor Pownuk emphasised that, in the interests of the investigation, he could not disclose details

The police investigation into her death is ongoing.
