In today's world, WhatsApp has become an integral part of our daily lives. There are often times when keeping the internet active is necessary, yet we do not wish to respond to incoming WhatsApp messages or calls. Whether during work hours or due to a busy schedule, people often want to remain online for general purposes while appearing unavailable to others on WhatsApp.
In fact, WhatsApp features a specific setting that allows you to appear offline even while keeping your internet connection active. In this mode, if someone sends you a message, they will see only a single tick mark. Typically, a single tick is interpreted to mean that the message has not yet reached the recipient's phone. Similarly, if someone attempts to call you, the call screen will display "Calling" instead of "Ringing," leading the caller to assume that your phone is either disconnected from the network or that you are offline.
This method can prove highly useful for individuals who, for whatever reason, do not wish to provide an immediate response but cannot turn off their internet connection. With the help of this trick, you can continue using the internet as usual, while messages sent to your WhatsApp remain undelivered.
This functionality is linked to WhatsApp's Proxy settings. Originally, this feature was designed for situations where internet access is restricted in a specific region, allowing users to connect to WhatsApp via a third-party server. However, many users are now utilizing it as a privacy trick. When you access the settings and enable the Proxy feature, your WhatsApp application is prevented from connecting directly to the servers, even though your phone's internet connection remains active.
In this state, anyone who sends you a message will see only a single tick, and incoming calls will display "Calling" rather than ringing on their end. Consequently, the other person will assume that you are offline.
However, there is one important point to understand when using this setting: when the Proxy feature is enabled, your WhatsApp does not function in a completely normal manner. If you attempt to send a message to someone, it will not be delivered immediately; instead, a clock icon will appear next to it, indicating that the message is pending delivery. That message will only be delivered once you turn off this setting.
Therefore, you can think of this feature as a way to temporarily disable WhatsApp. This setting can be used when you do not want anyone to contact you, or when you wish to stop receiving messages and calls. It allows you to appear offline on WhatsApp without having to turn off your internet connection.
