Mangalore: A man allegedly attempted to kill another by ramming his two-wheeler with a car over a land dispute in Mangalore on Tuesday (March 17). The accused has been taken into police custody.

The injured has been identified as Mohan Das Shetty (56), a resident of Mallikatte, while the accused is Mohammad Sharif.

According to the police, the dispute arose between Shetty and Sharif along with his father Mohammad Iqbal over land in Suratkal’s Kaan and Vamanjoor areas, in which Sharif had invested around Rs 2 crore. On Tuesday morning around 11 am, Sharif allegedly confronted Shetty on Arya Samaj Road and snatched his mobile phone in anger.

Later, as Shetty was riding his two-wheeler, Sharif allegedly drove his Innova Crysta at high speed and rammed the vehicle from behind, attempting to kill him.

The Mangalore East Police Station registered a case and took Mohammad Sharif into custody. He has been produced in court, the police statement said.
