In a blog post, Pavan Davuluri, EVP of Windows and Devices, said the changes come directly from months of user feedback. The rollout begins in late March and continues through April via the Windows Insider Program.
Windows taskbar can now sit on the top or sides of your screenThe most visible change: you can finally move the taskbar. Microsoft is adding vertical and top positioning options, something power users have requested since Windows 11 launched. A smaller taskbar option is also coming.
Copilot is being quietly pulled back from apps where it didn't belongMicrosoft is removing Copilot entry points from Snipping Tool, Photos, Widgets, and Notepad. The company says it wants AI integration to feel "well-crafted" rather than scattered—a notable course correction after aggressive AI push over the past year.
Windows Update will stop forcing restarts on youThe update experience is getting a significant overhaul. Users will be able to skip updates during device setup, shut down without installing them, and pause updates for as long as needed. Microsoft also promises fewer unsolicited restart notifications.
File Explorer is getting a speed and stability tune-upFile Explorer improvements will focus on faster launch times, reduced flickering, and smoother navigation. Large file copy and move operations are also getting reliability fixes—something that has been a persistent sore point.
Widgets are getting quieter defaults and better personalization controlsWidgets will now surface less content by default and give users clearer controls to customise or fully disable the Discover feed. The goal, Microsoft says, is glanceable information rather than a constant stream of noise.
Feedback Hub just got its biggest redesign yetThe updated Feedback Hub is already rolling out to Insiders, with a faster submission flow and an improved community view. It's the most significant update to the app since Windows 11 launched.



Davuluri also confirmed that Microsoft will be hosting in-person Windows community meetups in cities worldwide, with Seattle already done.
