A solid knock from Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal has set up Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) 6-wicket victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
RCB secured first win in the IPL 2026 season and got its first two points in the IPL 2026 points table.
Inviting SRH to bat first, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head opened the innings for SRH while Duffy opened the attack.
Both batters were out of touch as they struggled to strike the ball to the boundary. With the dismissal of Abhishek Sharma for 7 runs, Duffy picked his second wicket, dismissing Head for 11 runs.
Ishan Kishan and Nitish Reddy came in at no.3 and 4 to stabilise the innings. However, Jacob Duffy bagged the wicket of Nitish Reddy in the 5th overs as SRH lost three wickets for 29 runs.
Ishan Kishan, who has been in fine form, joined Klassen to forge 97 run partnership, which included the SRH captain’s fifty.
His fifty came off in 27 deliveries, which included 5 fours and 2 sixes. He also breached 3000 run milestone in the IPL. He accelerated the innings, aiming for a better score, but Klaasen got dismissed on Romario Shepherd’s delivery for 31 runs.
Salil Arora, who came to bat, lost his wicket to Suyash Sharma for 9 runs, leaving SRH once again struggling to keep wickets.
By the end of 15 overs, Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 142 runs for 5 wickets. Soon, Ishan Kishan lost his wicket to Abhinandan Singh for 80 runs.
With his dismissal, Hyderabad’s line up struggle to keep wickets as Harsh Dubey and Harshal Patel return to the dugout in back-to-back overs.
However, Aniket Verma played a solid knock, scoring 43 runs in 18 deliveries, which included 3 fours and 4 sixes.
With only one wicket in hand, SRH scored 201 runs in their 20-over innings. Jacob Duffy and Romario Shepherd bagged three wickets each, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Abhinandan Singh and Suyash Sharma bagged one wicket each.
RCB need to score 202 runs if they need to make a solid start in the ongoing IPL 2026 campaign.
Chasing a 202 run target, Phil Salt and Virat Kohli opened the innings, while Nitish Reddy opened the bowling attack.
With Jaydev Unadkat bagging the wicket of Phil Salt for 8 runs, Devdutt Padikkal came to bat and attacked bowlers in an aggressive mode as RCB scored 76 runs in the powerplay.
Padikkal went on to score 61 runs off 26 deliveries before being dismissed by Harsh Dubey. His knock included 7 fours and 4 sixes.
Meanwhile, Rajat Patidar smashed a quick 31 off 12 deliveries before being sent back to dug out by David Payne.
With Jitesh Sharma got dismissed on duck, Virat Kohli went on to slam fifty and continued to chase, completing it comfortably in the 16th over.
RCB went on to score 203 runs in 15.4 overs and secured their first win of the tournament.
David Payne picked two wickets while Jaydev Unadkat and Harsh Dubey comepleted with a wicket each.
RCB will play their next game against Chennai Super Kings on April 05 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
