The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is experiencing a major internal upheaval, marked by a significant leadership shift. Raghav Chadha, a prominent figure in the Rajya Sabha, has been removed from his position as Deputy Leader. Following this decision, Chadha issued a strong and emotional statement clarifying his stance.
In a statement released on Friday, Chadha expressed, "I can be silenced, but I cannot be defeated." It has become evident to him that there is no longer a place for him within the party.
On Thursday, AAP communicated with the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, proposing the removal of Raghav Chadha from his Deputy Leader role and appointing Ashok Kumar Mittal in his place. The party confirmed in a statement, "Ashok Kumar Mittal will serve as the new Deputy Leader of AAP in the Rajya Sabha. An official letter has been sent to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat regarding this change."
This alteration signals a shift in the party's internal leadership ahead of upcoming parliamentary sessions. Raghav Chadha, known for advocating for 'paternity leave' to be recognized as a legal right in India, has previously made headlines. He argued that the responsibility of child care should be shared equally between both parents, emphasizing the need for laws to reflect modern parenting realities and ensure equal participation in early child care.
Recently, Chadha has been active on social media, sharing updates about his parliamentary speeches—such as his campaign for paternity leave—and significant personal milestones, including the birth of his first child with actress Parineeti Chopra.
Currently, AAP has ten members in the Rajya Sabha, with seven representing Punjab and three from Delhi.
