The definition of “fitness” has changed over the years, especially with new trends and evolving lifestyles. On this Balika Vadhu fame Roop Durgapal , who debuted with the famous web series Sankalp says, ”Trends can keep coming, but what stays is the fact that health is the biggest wealth & that doesn’t really require being fancy. Health & fitness actually require simplicity in terms of food that we eat, movement that we do and sleep. While trends allow us to explore various ways to look at fitness, the core is very simple.”

She also adds, "I feel health requires going back to basics & nothing compares to home cooked simple meals which are easily digestible, freshly made & with ingredients that we know of. Getting a good sleep of 7-8 hrs, waking up with the sun, stretching, yoga , all these are simple yet highly effective practices.”

But with increasing screen time, what small changes can people adopt to reduce its impact on their physical well-being? Roop says,”What I personally do is, keep the phone away sometime before sleeping & don’t start my morning by immediately looking at it. Since I have become aware of spending too much time on screen, I keep doing simple things like , reminding myself that 5 mins only & then phone needs to be kept away , blinking my eyes several times afterwards & doing simple neck stretches that helps me to relax.”

Roop also shares how sleep is an important tool for a good healthy lifestyle. She says,”Sleep is a medicine. It’s the time when the body does its repair work. Minimum of 6 hours is essential though for me personally, 7-8 hrs work the best.”

Roop feels a lot happens now because of following trends and people are much more aware now. She says, "The trend in general is to follow trends and fads but even that’s coming from awareness towards health so whatever works for each individual. Discipline can get us anywhere I believe. Doing small small things everyday gets compounded in the long run. Every step counts. So it’s a must to have a routine that we follow to the T everyday.”

At last Roop shares a simple lifestyle routine which will help us start our day in a better way. She says, "Start your day with sunshine & not by looking into your phone. It would remove the early morning chaos & keep you grounded with your own self, which is everything & allows us to be disciplined too.”
