It's a question that easily gets Brits arguing: which city is the best in Britain? London is known for its history, its opportunities and its iconic landmarks but it's certainly not for everyone. Often, the hustle and bustle of the city, combined with crime and high rent prices, will make non-Londoners stay away in favour of other popular spots.

One person who moved from Australia to the UK has revealed which city they think is the best - and it's a northern powerhouse that's filled with things to do and see. You might be thinking of Manchester - but that's not the winner in this Aussie's eyes. They revealed on Reddit that they think Liverpool is the best city in the UK.

They said: "Ended up here for work then eventually stayed as my partner is from here. I do love it; there's great history and culture here, the people are lovely, cheap house prices, easy access to the lakes/snowdonia/Peak District.

"Loads of national trust places reasonably locally, museums, great theatres/concert venues/sports in the city and very close to Manchester if you want a bigger city (although I'm personally not a massive fan)."

Continuing to list the benefits of the city, they said there are four universities in the area and it's also close to Chester for a nice day trip.

Not only this but they said there is a good local airport that services European flights well, with Manchester international airport a reasonable commute away.

They continued: "Town is great, very easy to walk around and probably some of the best nightlife in the UK without London/southern prices.

"Weather is slightly better than other places up north (rains less than the Pennines region and it's not nearly as cold due to its proximity to the sea). Regular ferries to Ireland. Frequently a stop for cruise ships if that is your vibes."

But, the person admits that there are a few downsides to Liverpool.

They say that for job opportunities, sometimes it can be lacking in certain fields including commercial law, finance, government or banking. But again, they add that Manchester is within reach for jobs in these fields.

As the person is from Australia, famous for its stunning beaches, they say that Liverpool's shorelines are no match for downunder.

Liverpool is known for its vibrant nightlife, musical history and football culture - it's a warm and friendly city that's loved by Brits and international tourists alike.
