Prince Harry has revealed the exact moment he realised he didn't "like" royal life in Australia yesterday. The Duke of Sussex, who is currently on a four-day tour in Australia with his wife Meghan Markle, stepped up to the stage to deliver a speech at a leadership summit in Melbourne.

After the speech at the InterEdge Summit, Harry spoke to Australian business leader and former politician Brendan Nelson about grief and royal life. It was then that the King's youngest son revealed the moment he realised he didn't want a royal "role", whatever it was set to be.

Harry was just 12-years-old at the time.

The duke revealed: "After my mum died just before my 13th birthday - I was like: 'I don't want this job. I don't want this role - wherever this is headed, I don't like it.'

"It killed my mum and I was very much against it, and I stuck my head in the sand for years and years."

He then said: "Eventually I realised - well, hang on, if there was somebody else in this position, how would they be making the most of this platform and this ability and the resources that come with it to make a difference in the world?

"And also, what would my mum want me to do? That really changed my own perspective."

The revelation was the first time in a while that Harry has addressed his mother's death, with Princess Diana having died in Paris in 1997.

The princess was involved in a car crash with her partner Dodi Fayed, and passed away in a hospital just hours later.

Harry and his brother Prince William were told the news by their father King Charles at Balmoral Castle the next morning.

The duke spoke a lot about his mother's death in his 2023 memoir Spare, including the way in which he did not believe it was real for some time.
