Fake Check Truth, AI: AI is rapidly blurring the line between real and fake. Recently, such a check of Rs 69,000 went viral on social media platform X, which people were surprised to see. This check was prepared by a user Shirish with the help of AI tool, which looked exactly like a real bank cheque. After this incident, questions started rising in people’s minds, can money now be withdrawn from bank accounts by making fake checks through AI?

How was such a real check prepared?

This AI-generated check had all the details that are there in a real cheque, such as account number, branch details, signature area and MICR band. This check was prepared with the help of OpenAI’s new image generation tool ChatGPT Image 2.0. This tool creates images so precisely that at first glance it becomes very difficult to differentiate between real and fake. Shirish himself wrote in his post, “This image has been created with ChatGPT Image 2.0, we are done with the work.”

Could your bank account be empty?

This question is scaring people the most. But according to experts, there is no need to panic. In fact, a bank check is not valid just by its appearance. It has many secret security features that are almost impossible to copy.

  • A special type of paper is used on genuine checks

  • VOID mark visible in UV light

  • CTS (Cheque Truncation System) rules apply

AI cannot copy these security features completely. Therefore, the bank does not approve the transaction just by looking at the photo.

Where is the real danger?

Even though it may be difficult to deceive a bank, it may be easy to mislead the common people. By using such AI generated cheques, fraudsters can deceive others. This can become a big threat especially for users with less knowledge.

When will AI be controlled?

Experts believe that AI companies will have to make strict rules so that misuse of this technology can be prevented. Unless there are proper controls on AI models, the possibility of such misuse will remain.

wisdom is the only protection

It is clear from this whole matter that the more powerful AI is becoming, the more the need to be careful is also increasing.

  • Do not trust any suspicious images or documents

  • Always check banking information through official channels only

  • Be alert to avoid online fraud
