New Delhi: A major security scare happened at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the IPL 2026 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 24. Nearly 240 CCTV cameras were allegedly disabled at one of the league’s busiest venues.

Despite the huge disruption, authorities acted swiftly to put alternate arrangements in place and ensured the match went smoothly. The officials at the venue confirmed that real-time monitoring was restored via backup measures after the issue was detected.

The massive development comes at a time when RCB are scheduled to play an away match against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The incident has once again brought the stadium into the spotlight, raising major concerns about security and operational protocols.

Two staff members booked

A case has been registered at Cubbon Park police station against two employees of subcontractor IVS Digital Solutions, identified as Manjunath E and Abdul Kalam, who got unauthorised access to the venue’s CCTV server room. The duo allegedly used an deactivated access card to bypass all the security protocols.

After entering the server room, they damaged the optical fibre connections, disrupting CCTV surveillance near the parking area, entry gates, perimeter cameras and concourse zones. This breach majorly impacted real-time monitoring during the match, leaving key areas without surveillance.

However, the officials have said that the alternative arrangements were put in place immediately once the issue was detected, ensuring security was not compromised during the game. An investigation is currently underway to determine the extent of the breach and possible motives.

Earlier, a canteen worker named Chandrashekhar was arrested for selling 100 IPL match tickets at inflated prices in the black market during an RCB match against Lucknow Super Giants. The Bengaluru-based franchise has played its last game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, and its next two home matches will be played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur.
