New Delhi: A shocking incident was reported from Madhya Pradesh when a couple was accused of buying a six-day-old baby and then abandoning her on the roadside within two years.
According to a media report, the couple abandoned the baby because, according to them, the child had brought ‘bad luck’ to their family and business.
On April 18, a stir erupted in the Manpur police station when a person informed the officials that a baby girl had been abandoned on National Highway 552 near SoiKhurd.
Police arrived at the scene and took the baby to a medical centre, where she underwent a medical examination. Officials registered a case and began the investigation into the matter.
With the CCTV footage and technical evidence, police suspected an unidentified car (MP 07 ZA 0067), which was registered with the name of Akash Moodda, a Bhopal resident. A team of police reached Akash’s residence in Bhopal and interrogated him and his wife.
A woman who identified herself as the child’s caretaker in Bhopal said that the couple never disclosed the child’s origin. She had been hired to look after the baby for Rs 20,000 a month, but after not receiving the salary, she left the job.
During interrogation, the accused accepted that the couple adopted a girl, but upon further questioning, a major revelation came that they purchased the baby from Indore for Rs 1 lakh.
Based on the details, three special teams were formed and sent to Indore under the direction of the Superintendent of Police. Officials arrested six accused in connection with the case, including four women and two men.
Police registered a case based on the sections of the Human Trafficking and Juvenile Justice Act and produced all the accused in the court. Later, the accused were remanded to a three-day police custody.
The search for the baby girl’s biological parent is still going on, and police are also conducting a thorough investigation to arrest the entire human trafficking network.
