Many things make up a beautiful garden - lush green grass, flourishing rosebushes or a relaxing patio with chairs to enjoy the sunshine. One of the often overlooked parts that make a gorgeous garden is wildlife.

Nothing makes a garden feel more alive than plenty of birds, butterflies and bees calling it home. If you want to attract nature into your garden, you can hang a bird feeder - or simply plant three flowers that birds can't get enough of. Not only will these flowers make your back garden look beautiful, but they will keep it teeming with life all summer long.

Sunflowers

Sunflowers are very easy to grow, and look striking in the garden thanks to their bright yellow flowers and towering height. Even better, birds love them.

Once they have passed their best, make sure to leave them in place, as finches and other birds will come and eat their seeds.

Echinacea

This month is also the perfect time to plant echinacea. This plant flowers in a pretty pastel purple and British birds love it - especially if you let it go to seed.

Echinacea, also known as cone flowers, enjoy bright sun and once established are pretty drought tolerant. These attractive blooms look like daisies and are perfect for adding a splash of colour to your garden.

Alliums

They might technically be onions, but these beautiful plants offer far more interest to your garden than an onion.

Their striking spherical heads bloom in pretty purple, and they look gorgeous woven through ornamental grasses to create an interesting border. Once the flowers have faded, leave the seed heads out for birds to enjoy.
