Olivia Rodrigo made her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live with humor, nostalgia, and a sharp joke aimed at former co-star Jake Paul. During her opening monologue on the latest episode of SNL on May 2, Rodrigo looked back at her early acting career and recalled working on the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark when she was just 13 years old.

The singer joked that the show had an “incredible cast,” which included what she sarcastically called “acting legend Jake Paul.” “We’d always talk about our futures, me and Jake,” Rodrigo told the audience.

She said she would tell him, “I really want to create music that explores the complexities of girls my age,” while Paul had a very different goal. “And he’d say, ‘Well, one day I really want to beat up old guys on Netflix,’” she said, referencing Paul’s recent boxing matches involving older opponents streamed on Netflix. “And we both did it. Hooray!” Rodrigo added, drawing loud laughter and applause from the audience.

The joke quickly became one of the standout moments of her monologue, especially because both stars first found fame through Disney before taking very different career paths.

Rodrigo also reflected on her acting beginnings, sharing that her first-ever job was in an Old Navy commercial at age six. She joked that her line was cut from the ad and recreated the moment on stage for laughs.

She later promoted her upcoming album, joking about its long title, saying, “My last two albums were called ‘Sour’ and ‘Guts,’ and this new one is called ‘You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So In Love.’ So I learned more words, guys!”

The monologue also included a comedic song about getting her REAL ID at the DMV, turning the frustrating paperwork process into a dramatic ballad.
