Ravi Kota, the Chief Secretary of Assam, convened a comprehensive review meeting with the state's Director General of Police to assess preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit. The Prime Minister is set to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected council of ministers in Assam.

Scheduled for May 12, the event will take place at the Veterinary College grounds in Khanapara, Guwahati. In a statement released on X, the Chief Secretary noted that the ceremony will feature several honorable Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from various states, along with central ministers and distinguished representatives from the business sector.

Security and Coordination Measures Discussed

The meeting also focused on detailed arrangements concerning security, traffic management, venue preparations, protocols, and inter-departmental coordination. Emphasis was placed on the need for smooth operations, strict adherence to established protocols, and close collaboration among all stakeholders. All relevant departments have been instructed to maintain the highest level of readiness to ensure the ceremony proceeds smoothly, safely, and in accordance with the significance of the occasion.

BJP Leaders Arriving for Legislative Meeting

Dilip Saikia, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), informed a news agency that the party's central observers, including Union Minister JP Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, will arrive in Guwahati on May 9 to oversee the election of the BJP legislative party leader in Assam. He mentioned that a meeting of the BJP legislative party is scheduled for May 10 in Guwahati, followed by a meeting of the NDA, which will also include the central observers.

Transition of Leadership in Assam

Previously, Assam's caretaker Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma resigned, paving the way for the formation of a new cabinet following the decisive electoral mandate received by the party. Sarma confirmed that BJP National President Nitin Nabin has appointed JP Nadda and Nayab Singh Saini as central observers for the selection of Assam's next Chief Minister.
