Because Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) India has slashed the price of its most premium SUV, the Range Rover SV imported from Britain, by Rs 75 lakh, now its ex-showroom price is Rs 3.5 crore. Earlier it was priced at Rs 4.25 crore. This reduction has been made before the Free Trade Agreement between India and Britain came into force. The company has also slashed the price of the Range Rover Sport SV Edition Two by Rs 40 lakh, which will now fetch Rs 2.35 crore. The new prices have been implemented with immediate effect.

JLR India has taken this strategic decision to immediately pass on the benefits of the potential Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the United Kingdom (UK) to the customers. The deal is expected to reduce import duty, and the same reduction has already been applied by JLR India to its premium SV models. With this decision, the price of special SV variants imported from the UK has become more affordable, bringing great relief to consumers. The management of the company considers this as an important step towards extending the ‘SV’ portfolio to more customers.

The luxury car market in India is currently growing at a rapid rate of 15% to 20% annually. In this growing market, this price cut by JLR India will help them gain a distinct identity. After these changes, JLR’s premium SV models are now more competitive. For example, cars in this range will now compete directly with the likes of Mercedes-Maybach GLS, Porsche Cayenne Turbo and Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S. These price changes are driven by an estimated 5% to 15% import duty reduction under the FTA.

This strategic move by JLR India reflects its confidence in its premium SV models. Affordable prices are expected to increase sales and strengthen brand recognition.
