Maruti Suzuki is preparing to defend its crown in the highly competitive sub-compact SUV segment. Fresh spy shots of the 2026 Brezza facelift have emerged from recent testing cycles, revealing a shift in strategy that prioritizes one of the biggest pain points for CNG owners: practicality.
Slated for a launch later this year, the updated Brezza is set to take on the Tata Nexon iCNG and Mahindra XUV 3XO. The headline feature is a revolutionary new underbody CNG tank setup designed to reclaim the boot space lost to traditional cylinders. We’ve analyzed the new gearbox, the mileage advantage, and the tech upgrades to bring you the ultimate breakdown.
The 2026 Brezza is expected to be the first in its segment to adopt the “Underbody Tank” architecture seen in the Grand Vitara. This move shifts the center of gravity slightly lower, which could actually improve the vehicle’s high-speed stability compared to the top-heavy feel of traditional CNG installations.
Despite having a smaller 55-litre fuel capacity compared to the Nexon’s 60-litre setup, the Brezza delivers a class-leading 25.51 km/kg. This makes it nearly 46% more fuel-efficient than the Nexon CNG’s 17.44 km/kg.
The 2026 Brezza is likely to upgrade to the 10.1-inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system found in the Fronx and Baleno, replacing the current 9-inch unit for a more “wide-screen” experience.
Maruti Suzuki remains the only manufacturer in India to offer factory-fitted CNG across its entire SUV portfolio (Fronx, Brezza, and Grand Vitara), giving it a massive lead in service network familiarity and spare part availability.

Pros | Cons |
Full Boot Space: Underbody CNG tank is a game-changer. | No Turbo: Lacks the mid-range punch of the Nexon or XUV 3XO. |
Elite Mileage: 25.51 km/kg is unbeatable in this segment. | CNG Power: 87 hp can feel sluggish with a full load on hills. |
New 6-Speed Gearbox: Better highway refinement. | Interior Plastics: Still feels a step behind the premium Kia Sonet. |
High Resale: Maruti SUVs hold value better than almost any rival. | Wait Times: High demand often leads to 3–6 month waiting periods. |
