On May 9, Kolkata witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of Shuvendu Adhikari as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal. Immediately following the ceremony, Adhikari visited the ancestral home of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, known as Jorasanko Thakur Bari, where he paid homage to the legendary poet before officially assuming his duties.
Dressed in a dhoti and saffron kurta, Adhikari expressed his desire to seek the blessings of the poet, stating, 'After paying tribute to the Kaviguru, I will commence my official responsibilities.'
He echoed the words of Swami Vivekananda, 'Charaiveti, Charaiveti' (Keep moving forward), urging the people to work towards the creation of a new Bengal. Adhikari expressed hopes for a new dawn for the state, saying, 'Let us rebuild Bengal.' He emphasized that this is not a time for blame or criticism, and noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had wished for this day, marking it as a significant moment for the state.
