SIR will be held in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh after the weather improves.
New Delhi. The Election Commission announced the launch of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 16 states and three Union Territories from May 30 in a phased manner. The Election Commission said that in this phase, SIR will be held in Delhi, Odisha, Mizoram, Sikkim, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Telangana, Punjab, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Tripura, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
The SIR schedule will be announced later keeping in mind the weather conditions in snowfall areas Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, the statement said. During the third phase of SIR, more than 3.94 lakh booth level officers will visit door-to-door of 36.73 crore voters to collect information.
The SIR process has been done in Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep. A “special review” was conducted in Assam.
