A major UK supermarket is launching a new summer drink range across its nationwide portfolio just in time for "warm weather gatherings". Aldi's new Baron Amarillo Sangria Frizzante, a twist on Spain's Sangria de Cava, will hit shelves around the country for just £3.99 on May 21.

Described as a red wine base with zesty notes of orange and lemon, the sparkling drink is best served chilled over ice with a slice of lemon. It will launch in Aldi's 1,087 UK stores alongside the retailer's new Spanish-inspired summer collection, just in time for the May Bank Holiday weekend, when temperatures are expected to reach highs of 27C.

The new range, designed for homemade Spanish-style tapas spreads, includes Gazpacho Soup, priced at £1.49, Spanish Hand Cooked Crisps, at £1.15, and Paella Rice, also for £1.49.

It also boasts crispy pork snack Chicharricos for £1.09 and Spanish Recipe Mixes for 59p each.

Meanwhile, those looking for heartier southwest European dinners will be able to grab new Spanish Style Beef and Pork Meatballs for £2.89, Pil Pil Prawns for £3.99 and fluffy Spanish Magdalena cakes for £1.69.

The UK's fourth biggest supermarket chain previously announced two new food and homeware ranges for the summer months, with Mediterranean-inspired Hot Sharing Plates including Iberico Ham Croquetas and Chargrilled Chorizo.

Meanwhile the Kit Out Your Kitchen range, available from last month, includes the Tapas Serving Set, complete with a two-tone olive oil jug, wine cooler and dedicated olive dish.

The new product lines come ahead of Aldi's ambitious plans to expand further across the UK in a bid to bring its total number of branches to 1,500.

The German retailer confirmed it was targeting eight locations in London in a bid to provide budget-friendly options in expensive parts of the country in April, including in Wimbledon, Shoreditch, Uxbridge and Kentish Town.

Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: "We know household budgets are still under pressure, and too many Londoners don't have an Aldi within easy reach.

"These new stores will bring our unbeatable value to more families while creating around 200 new jobs across the capital."
