Similarly, on May 20, students will appear for examinations in Sanskrit, Painting, Information Technology, and Artificial Intelligence. The second phase of the board examinations will conclude on May 21 with the Social Science paper.

Why did CBSE introduce two board examinations?

CBSE has introduced a system of two board examinations for Class 10 students, effective from the 2026 academic session. The examination held in February was mandatory, whereas the ongoing second phase is optional; it has been introduced to assist students in improving their scores or in passing subjects in which they may have previously failed. However, students are permitted to appear in a maximum of three subjects during this second board examination. If a student secures higher marks in this second board examination, those marks will be considered valid; conversely, if the marks obtained are lower than those in the first examination, the scores from the first board examination will be retained.

When will the results for the second board examination be released?

The results for the second CBSE Class 10 board examination are expected to be declared by the Board within one month of the conclusion of the examinations. After the results are declared, students will be able to complete the admission-related formalities at schools.
