During a press conference on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump expressed robust support for India and its Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that the United States would assist India in the event of an attack while Modi is in power. Speaking at the G7 Summit in France, Trump characterized his discussions with Modi as "very good" and emphasized the ongoing strategic partnership between Washington and New Delhi.

Trump stated, "If Modi is the leader and India is attacked, we will be there to help them," and directly addressed Modi, saying, "If anybody attacks that man, we're going to be there." Adding a touch of humor, he remarked, "Now, if there's a new leader, I'm not sure..." These comments followed a meeting that concentrated on trade, economic collaboration, and regional security, which are crucial as India seeks to enhance its strategic relationship with the US amidst evolving geopolitical dynamics in the Indo-Pacific.

Additionally, Trump commended Modi's negotiation abilities, labeling him as a formidable partner in ongoing trade talks. "He's a tough trader," Trump noted, highlighting that both nations are actively working to finalize trade agreements. Trade continues to be a fundamental aspect of the India-US relationship, with efforts to reconcile differences regarding tariffs, market access, and supply chains, while also expanding cooperation in technology, defense, and energy sectors.
