It is not the first time it has happened that a Lucknow Super Giants captain has moved to the Delhi Capitals. However, this time it will be a homecoming if reports are to be believed. A Times of India report claimed that the former LSG captain Rishabh Pant is likely to come back to his previous team, DC.
Rishabh started his IPL career with Delhi Capitals, had multiple records with the side, and even led them for two years after Shreyas Iyer. After the management changed, he decided not to stay there and go for the auction. In the 2025 Mega auction, Dr. Sanjiv Goenka led LSG to buy him for a massive price of INR 27 crore. He was made the captain of the team but had terrible results in both 2025 and 2026, with his own form dipping.
Even though reports said that Rishabh wanted to quit captaincy in the middle of the season, his statement came after their campaign ended. The wicketkeeper represented DC from 2016 to 2024, scoring 3,284 runs in 111 matches at a strike rate of 148.93. He evolved from a young prospect into one of the world's best batters.

Will Rishabh Pant return as Delhi Capitals captain?
Probably not. A Times of India report said that the franchise is backing KL Rahul as the leader of the pack, replacing Axar Patel. After Pant's exit, the all-rounder was given the responsibility to lead the Delhi Capitals. Despite individual brilliance, DC faltered badly in both seasons. In 2025, DC failed to work on the early boost they got, and this year, they had a sudden burst in late that got overshadowed by the defeats in the first half.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul, who also came from LSG in 2025, had a stellar season in 2026. The Karnataka wicketkeeper-batter scored 593 runs in 14 innings. He both anchored and attacked as and when required for DC and had an average of 45.62, striking at 174.41.
KL holds an overall IPL captaincy win percentage of 48.43% across 64 matches. He led the Punjab Kings in 2020 and 2021. Even though he won the orange cap in 2020, his team finished 6th in both seasons. In LSG, he guided the team to consecutive playoff appearances in 2022 and 2023 while leading from 2022 to 2024.
