On Tuesday, athletes Moumita Mondal and Sonia Baishya from the Reliance Foundation marked International Olympic Day by engaging with children at an Anganwadi in Kalyan, Maharashtra. This event was part of the 'Let's Move! You Can Do This' initiative, a collaboration between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Reliance Foundation, aimed at promoting physical activity and instilling Olympic values in the youth.

Understanding Olympic Day

Every year on June 23, Olympic Day is celebrated to honor the inception of the modern Olympic Games, which commenced on this date in 1894 in Paris. The main goal of this day is to inspire worldwide participation in sports, transcending age, gender, and skill levels.

Since 2023, the celebrations have been integrated with the IOC's Let's Move initiative, which encourages daily physical activity and movement.

The IOC was established by Baron Pierre de Coubertin in 1894, leading to the inaugural modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896.

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, conveyed his best wishes on International Olympic Day, emphasizing the fundamental Olympic principles of excellence, friendship, and respect. He also highlighted the evolution of India's sports culture under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance.

In a message shared on X, Mandaviya remarked that this day serves as a universal reminder of the values that motivate millions globally through sports.
