Patna. Bihar government has taken a big decision to speed up development works at the Panchayat level. In the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, the proposal for grant of Rs 51,923 crore for three-tier Panchayati Raj institutions has been approved. With this decision, Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis and District Councils of the state will get huge financial help for development schemes.
The government has given this approval on the basis of the recommendations of the 16th Finance Commission for the period from the financial year 2026-27 to 2030-31. This amount received from the Central Government will be used to carry forward the necessary facilities and development schemes in the Panchayat areas.
29 proposals got approval
A total of 29 proposals were decided in the cabinet meeting. After the meeting, officials informed that the amount to be received by Panchayats will be made available in the next five financial years. The entire system of its distribution and expenditure has also been decided, so that the Panchayat institutions can work in a planned manner.
Emphasis on roads, water and sanitation in villages
With this grant amount, special attention will be given to strengthening the basic facilities in rural areas. This will include development works to rural road construction, drinking water system, cleanliness campaign, community buildings and other local needs. Apart from this, additional grants will also be given to Panchayat institutions doing better work on the basis of performance. This will help in increasing the quality of work in Panchayats, bringing transparency and strengthening accountability.
Preparation to strengthen Panchayats financially
The government says that this amount received under the recommendations of the Finance Commission will play an important role in effectively implementing rural development schemes. This will give more strength to the Panchayats in carrying out development work as per the needs of their area.
