In the fifth and final T20I against England at The Rose Bowl in Southampton, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first. India enters this match trailing 3-0 in the series, following a series of disappointing performances in the previous three matches, with the first game ending in no result.

After the toss, Iyer explained that the decision to bowl was based on their assessment of the conditions and their experiences from earlier matches. He encouraged his team to focus on their individual roles and give their best effort, regardless of the outcome. He stated, "We are gonna bowl first, considering the bowling which we've done for the last couple of matches. I feel that we've tried, almost tried and experienced almost everything. So, today based on the conditions, windy, and also the weather seemed to be, we had a chat before, that they mentioned that the wicket won't change that much. So, based on that, selected to bowl first."

Iyer emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, urging his players to relax and take their time rather than feeling rushed or pressured.

On the other hand, England's captain Harry Brook expressed that his team is motivated by the chance to become the world's top-ranked side with a win. He mentioned that England would have preferred to bat first and highlighted the need for good communication and adaptability to the conditions. Brook remarked, "If we win today we go number 1, that's on the back of my mind. We would have had a bat, so pretty happy."
