The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified its crackdown on food safety violations across the state, suspending the food business licences of three prominent Mumbai eateries after inspections revealed serious hygiene lapses. The action comes soon after senior IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe took charge as the FDA Commissioner.

The establishments facing action include Shalimar Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. (Shalimar Restaurant), Noor Mohammadi Hotel and Rehmania Restaurant. According to the FDA, inspections found multiple violations of food safety and hygiene norms, prompting authorities to suspend or cancel their licences.

As part of the statewide drive, the FDA has also ordered the sealing of an unlicensed hotel in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region. Officials said the enforcement campaign is aimed at ensuring strict compliance with food safety standards and protecting public health.

Since assuming office, Mundhe has launched a series of surprise inspections targeting restaurants, hotels, bakeries and food businesses across Maharashtra. In recent days, the FDA has taken action against several establishments over unhygienic kitchens, expired food items, poor storage practices and other violations of food safety regulations.

The FDA said inspections and enforcement drives will continue across the state, warning that establishments found violating food safety norms will face strict action, including suspension or cancellation of licences.
