Former India Under-19 player Manjot Kalra was arrested in Sri Lanka on an alleged match-fixing charge related to the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026. Kalra, who is also a co-owner of the Lanka Premier League franchise Jaffna Kings, was taken into custody by the police on Friday in connection with match-fixing attempts during LPL 2026. As per reports from local media outlets in Sri Lanka, Kalra was arrested for trying to lure a player into a corruption case.
After being presented before a magistrate, he has been remanded in judicial custody until July 31st as the investigation into the matter continues.
This latest incident, involving the owner of one of the top franchises in the LPL, has put the franchise cricket tournament under the scanner for integrity issues. Sri Lanka Cricket Issues Official Statement: Taking immediate note of the reports, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) issued a statement expressing its awareness of the development and readiness to cooperate.

Sri Lanka Cricket Issues Official Statement
Sri Lanka Cricket on Friday released a statement in the wake of the incident.
“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has taken note of the media reports relating to the reported arrest of the owner of the Jaffna Kings franchise by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) for the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports,”
The statement further added that the cricket board will provide its full support to the SIU for any assistance that may be required in the investigation.
“Sri Lanka Cricket, together with the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026, will extend its fullest cooperation to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) for the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports should any assistance be sought in connection with any inquiry arising from the matter."
As the governing body of the Lanka Premier League 2026, Sri Lanka Cricket reiterates its unwavering commitment to protecting the integrity of the tournament and will not tolerate any form of corruption, misconduct or foul play by any stakeholder associated with the league.
The board concluded:
“Sri Lanka Cricket has a zero-tolerance approach towards corruption and unethical practices and will ensure that all necessary measures are taken to uphold the integrity of the Lanka Premier League 2026 and to maintain its highest level of standards and dignity."
As the investigation into the said matter is ongoing and no other official information has been provided at this juncture, the developments will be keenly monitored in the days to come
