New Delhi: Heavy rains are currently being witnessed in many parts of the country. Kerala, coastal and some parts of south interior Karnataka have been warned of heavy rainfall for the next three days. In addition, there is a possibility of heavy rains in many parts of northwest and adjoining central India, as well as in some parts of east and northeast India for most of the days this week.
Heavy rains are likely in Jammu and Kashmir and some parts of Ladakh. Heavy rains are likely in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till August 12. Heavy rains are likely in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh on August 7, East Uttar Pradesh on August 8 and 9, West Rajasthan on August 9 and East Rajasthan from August 7 to 10.
Also, there will be heavy rain in some isolated parts of northwest India. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected in Uttarakhand between August 7 and 12. On August 10, a warning has been issued that there will be heavy rain in West Rajasthan and East Rajasthan.
Heavy rains in Bihar, Bengal too
Heavy rains have lashed many states across the country. Normal life has been completely disrupted due to lightning strikes and landslides. 11 people have died and 14 have been seriously injured in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Bihar and Bengal. The dead include 7 from various districts of Bihar and 4 from Howrah in Bengal. The rains are also affecting the hilly states.
Chance of heavy rain in the next two weeks
The southwest monsoon is likely to become more active in the country in the next 15 days. The conditions prevailing in the Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal are favourable for rains across the country. The Indian Ocean Dipole is currently in a neutral state. However, severe storm activity is ongoing over the eastern Indian Ocean.
