
The Indian team will tour Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series from August 15. The BCCI has announced the team for this tour. Batsman Sai Sudarshan, who was selected on the basis of fitness, was dropped from the team on August 8 due to lack of fitness. The BCCI has now announced the player to replace Sai Sudarshan, with which Sarfaraz Khan has returned to the Indian team after a long break. Sarfaraz last played a Test match in November 2024. The BCCI had announced that Sarfaraz Khan will join the Indian team before the first Test to be played in Galle.
Sarfaraz Khan, who was included in the team in place of Sai Sudarshan for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, last played in the Test series against New Zealand at home in November 2024. Since then, Sarfaraz Khan has not got a chance to play. In his Test career, he has played six Test matches, batted in 11 innings and managed to score 371 runs at an average of 37.1. During this period, he has also scored three half-centuries and a century.
Apart from including Sarfaraz Khan in the squad for the Sri Lanka tour, the BCCI also gave an update on Sai Sudarshan’s fitness in a release, which said that Sudarshan has been ruled out of the Test series against Sri Lanka. He is at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and is recovering from a stress reaction injury in his right toe. He has shown significant improvement and is recovering quickly. The medical team is closely monitoring his recovery.
