New Delhi: India’s preparations for the upcoming Sri Lanka series have been hit by a growing list of injury concerns, with several key players undergoing rehabilitation and facing uncertain return dates.

The fitness of lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah remains one of the biggest concerns, while Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Sai Sudharsan and several other players are also recovering from injuries.

Bumrah’s knee injury raises concern

Bumrah is being carefully managed because of his importance to the Indian team. He reportedly suffered a knee impact injury during the tour of England and was initially expected to play at least one Test in Sri Lanka.

However, reports indicate that fluid was drained from his knee and he received a lubricant injection on July 20. No definite return date has been set.

Hardik and Nitish continue recovery

Hardik Pandya has been dealing with multiple injuries since IPL 2026. Although he had appeared to be on track for recovery, pain in his right shin has forced him into another rehabilitation programme.

Nitish Kumar Reddy, meanwhile, is recovering from a quadriceps injury that ruled him out of India’s UK and Zimbabwe tours. He has reportedly entered the return-to-skills phase but remains some distance away from competitive cricket.

Several other players on rehabilitation

Sai Sudharsan has been ruled out of the Sri Lanka Test tour after suffering a toe injury. He continues to experience pain and is scheduled for further rehabilitation and tests.

Harshit Rana is recovering after surgery for a serious knee problem followed by a hamstring injury. Washington Sundar is also undergoing rehabilitation for a hamstring injury.

Varun Chakaravarthy, who played with a hairline fracture during the IPL, suffered a hamstring injury, while Akash Deep continues to recover from a lower-back stress fracture.

Ashok Sharma has suffered a back stress fracture and faces weeks of recovery, while Riyan Parag is recovering from right shoulder surgery and has yet to resume cricket skills.

With several players facing uncertain timelines, India’s team management will be closely watching their rehabilitation before finalising the squad and combinations for the Sri Lanka assignment.
