WhatsApp: WhatsApp, the instant messaging platform owned by Meta, has announced the rollout of new security features to further strengthen the security of users. This new update will bring the feature of linking multiple Passkeys to a single WhatsApp account, stronger two-step verification and getting additional details about calls from unknown numbers. According to the company, these features will help users avoid the risk of online scams and account hacking.

Multiple pass keys can be linked to one account

According to WhatsApp, more than 1 billion users worldwide are using the Passkey feature. With Passkey, the user does not need to enter the verification code when logging into the account again. Instead, accounts can be accessed easily and securely with a fingerprint, Face ID or the phone’s screen lock.

After this new update, users with both Android and iOS devices will be able to add multiple passkeys for the same WhatsApp account. This option can be found in Settings > Account > Passkeys.

Two-step verification will be stronger

WhatsApp has also made significant changes to the two-step verification process. Earlier users could secure their account with only a 6-digit PIN. Now WhatsApp is giving users the facility to create a complete and strong password containing letters, numbers and special characters.

According to the company, this update will make it difficult for hackers or cyber attackers to guess security details. WhatsApp has also advised users not to use simple and weak passwords like ‘123456’.

More details will be available on receiving unknown calls

WhatsApp will now display additional important information during incoming calls from numbers not saved in the contact list. Android users will be able to know whether the calling number is from another country or not, as well as whether the caller is associated with a common group with the user.

Having these additional details will make it easier for the user to decide whether to receive an unknown call or not. According to the company, online scammers usually pressure users to react quickly. With all these new features, the security of end-to-end encryption in personal messages and calls will remain intact as before.
