The wait for Janmashtami festival ended today. There is a religious atmosphere in the entire country on 4th September, where crores of people are observing fast. According to religious belief, a person should take a resolution to fast in the morning before observing the fast. Without resolution, the fast is considered incomplete. The festival of Janmashtami is being celebrated all over the country on 4th September. On this day all the devotees celebrate the birth anniversary of Shri Krishna. Also, many devotees observe fast throughout the day and prepare for the puja in the evening. Worship is done at night on the day of Janmashtami. Lord Krishna was born at night. Now the question arises that what should the devotees do from morning to evening on the day of Janmashtami.
On the day of Janmashtami, devotees should wake up in the morning and take bath, after which wear clean clothes and clean the worship place of the house. Light a ghee lamp at the worship place of the house and meditate on God and take a pledge to fast.
After this go to the market and buy puja items. To make Panchamrit, buy milk, curd, honey, sugar candy and ghee. Along with this, buy a pearl garland and new clothes for Kanha ji.
As soon as it is afternoon, start decorating Kanha ji's cradle. Along with this, keep all the makeup items at one place, so that there is no problem in decorating Kanha ji in the evening. Apart from this, all the devotees should sit near the place of worship and chant the mantra. Those who are fond of doing bhajan-kirtan, they should do bhajan-kirtan.
In the evening, the whole family should come together and decorate the puja place. After decoration, make Kanha ji sit on his swing. As soon as night falls, keep Panchamrit near Kanha ji. Also, keep all the things to be offered near the place of worship.
According to Hindu calendar, puja timings are from 11:57 pm to 12:43 am in New Delhi. During this time, devotees should bathe Lord Kanha. After that one should wear new clothes and perform puja. All devotees should offer butter, sugar candy and sweets.
On the day of Janmashtami, people should not pluck basil leaves even by mistake. Basil leaves should be plucked and kept a day in advance for offering in puja.
People who are not fasting on this day should also avoid eating garlic and onion.
On the day of Janmashtami, people should avoid getting angry at others. Also, people who have observed a fast should avoid telling lies.
Devotees should not sleep without performing puja tonight.
