Bhandara: The tragic road accident that took place in the early hours of Friday in Bhandara district of Maharashtra left many families in deep shock. 9 people died in a massive collision between a truck and a jeep on the highway near Pimpalgaon (Mundipar) in Lakhni taluka. The dead included 6 women and 3 children. Many people injured in the accident have been admitted to the hospital, the condition of some of whom is said to be critical.
It is being told that laborers from Chhattisgarh were traveling in the jeep and the vehicle was going from Raipur towards Nagpur. Meanwhile, near Mundipar, a truck was coming on the highway after filling diesel from the petrol pump. Then the speeding jeep collided with a truck. The collision was so severe that the front part of the jeep was badly shattered and the people sitting in it did not even get a chance to recover.
There was hue and cry on the spot after the accident. With the help of people present nearby, relief and rescue work was started. On receiving the information, the team of Gadegaon Highway Police Post along with Lakhni-Sakoli Police also reached the spot. The police inspected the spot and removed the damaged vehicles from the road so that traffic could be resumed on the highway.
All the people who lost their lives in the accident are said to be from Chhattisgarh. The police have completed the process of identifying the deceased and have started the process of informing their families. The injured have been sent to the Government Medical College, Bhandara for treatment. The condition of some of the injured admitted in the hospital is said to be critical.
At present, the police is trying to find out the circumstances under which the collision between the jeep and the truck took place. The causes of the accident are being investigated. Meanwhile, after the accident, traffic on the highway was affected for some time. Police removed both the vehicles from the road with the help of a crane, after which the road was cleared and the movement of vehicles could become normal.
