Brentford moved up to third in the Premier League table after thrashing West London rival Chelsea 3-0 on Friday night to extend its winless run to three games.

Second-half goals from Jaidon Anthony, Igor Thiago, and Fabio Carvalho ensured that Keith Andrews’ side went into the international break with a win against a Chelsea side without injured striker Joao Pedro.

Xabi Alonso opted to give first Premier League starts to several summer signings including Danny Welbeck, Jordan Henderson, and Pep Chavarria, but the decision failed to work.

Anthony broke the deadlock midway through the second half by pouncing on Jannik Schuster’s header across goal from a corner before Thiago doubled the lead by turning home the rebound from Kevin Schade’s saved effort on goal.

Substitute Carvalho confirmed the result in stoppage time by turning home a cross from Schade.

Brentford’s ‌win pushed the Bees, who are unbeaten so far in ​the league, up to third in the table ahead of the remaining weekend fixtures. Chelsea sits in ⁠seventh place.

It was the first home win for Brentford over Chelsea since 1938 and manager Keith Edwards and his players celebrated at the ‌final whistle, with their fans dancing along in the stands.
