Batting first, West Indies scored 405 runs for 7 wickets in 50 overs. In reply, India won the match by scoring 406 runs losing 2 wickets in just 43.3 overs. Captain Shubman Gill was the hero of India’s victory. He played a stormy innings of 223 unbeaten runs in 133 balls. Gill hit 26 fours and 8 sixes in his innings. He became one of the batsmen to score a double century in ODI cricket and made the record of the fastest ODI double century by completing the 200-run mark in 117 balls.

Gill got excellent support from Rohit Sharma from the other end. Rohit scored 101 runs in 75 balls, which included 10 fours and 6 sixes. Both the batsmen made the chase easy for India by making a big partnership of 255 runs for the first wicket.

Earlier, for West Indies, John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangu had scored centuries to take the team to 405 runs. This was also the highest score of West Indies in ODI against India.

With this win, India created a new record for its biggest successful run chase in ODI cricket. Earlier, India’s biggest successful run chase was 362 runs against Australia in 2013. At the same time, this is only the second example of successful chasing of a target of more than 400 runs in ODI history.
