Technology News : If your child uses Instagram and you want to monitor their activity, Meta has established some rules for this. According to the company, parents cannot directly access the Instagram account of their teen (ie, a child under the age of 18). Instagram According to the official FAQ of , due to privacy laws, the company cannot provide unauthorized access to the account to anyone who is not the account owner. Instagram users 13 years of age and older are considered authorized account holders. Therefore, parents cannot directly log into their account and see all their information.

Parents can’t directly access their teen’s account, Instagram says. However, local laws in some countries and regions allow parents to use additional monitoring features. These features allow parents to better understand and manage their child’s Instagram usage. In some regions, the law allows parents to access additional features such as downloading or editing their child’s information.

Parents can approve or deny that change in some cases

Monitoring on Instagram is a tool that parents and guardians can use to help teens under 18 use the platform safely. It allows parents to see specific settings on their child’s Teen account. Additionally, if a child wants to change a setting that may reduce account security, a parent can approve or deny that change in some cases.

Where is additional supervision available?

According to Meta, Instagram’s additional monitoring features are available in certain countries and regions. These include Florida, Connecticut, Texas, Puerto Rico, Indonesia, the European Union, Vietnam and Brazil. If your teen lives in one of these regions and meets the legal age requirements, parents can set up additional supervision facilities. Meta also offers various application options for this purpose. These include Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and Meta Horizon. However, parents may need to prove their identity before setting up a monitoring feature.

ID may be required to verify identity

In some cases, Meta may ask parents to verify their identity to ensure that the correct person is setting up the monitoring feature. This may require a valid government ID or two non-government IDs. According to Meta, the identity verification process can take up to 48 hours to complete. The company states that a parent’s ID is securely stored and deleted within 30 days of completing identity verification. This ID is not used for any other purpose like serving ads.

Consent of the minor is also required

After verifying a parent’s identity, Meta allows them to invite their teen to set up a monitoring facility. The teenager then needs to confirm that the person is their parent or guardian. If the teenager does not accept the request or does not respond within 7 days, the parent can resend the invitation. If the juvenile fails to respond or does not confirm parentage, META may, in some situations, request additional information.

Parents can do without direct access to their entire account

For example, parents may be asked for information such as the child’s birth certificate. Instagram does not give parents direct access to their child’s account. Instead, Meta offers features such as monitoring in some areas, which allow parents to monitor their teen’s Instagram settings and safety activities, allowing parents to do so without directly accessing their entire account.
