Chandigarh: The next meeting of the seven-member coordination committee set up by the Punjab govt to deliberate on matters related to the Jagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satikar (Amendment) Act, 2026 will be held on Oct 6.

The govt has also formally informed the jathedar of Akal Takht about the formation of the panel. The committee will discuss suggestions and feedback received from Akal Takht and work out a roadmap for coordination with its panel to build consensus on the proposed amendments.

The govt appointed PCS officer Harjeet Singh Sandhu as nodal officer on Sept 23 to facilitate coordination between the two committees.

The seven-member panel comprises former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh , Damdami Taksal chief Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa, Sant Baba Sewa Singh Rampur Khera, retired Justice Jaspal Singh, retired Justice Gurbir Singh, retired IPS officer and former PPSC chairman Jatinder Singh Aulakh, and law officer Preet Inder Paul Singh.

The Punjab govt constituted the panel on Sept 16 to coordinate with the Akal Takht-appointed committee and submit suggestions and reports on issues concerning the Act.

On Thursday, Amritsar deputy commissioner Dalwinder Singh handed over the govt’s letter to the in-charge of the Akal Takht secretariat. The letter from the department of home affairs said the suggestions and guidance received from Akal Takht were being considered with “utmost respect” and that the panel would hold detailed deliberations and coordinate with the Akal Takht committee before giving the matter a “proper final shape”.

The development follows a meeting between the panel and chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday. It was primarily introductory, with the panel deciding to deliberate internally before engaging with the five-member SGPC committee.
