Amritsar : A govt railway police ( GRP ) assistant sub-inspector was shot at by three men on a motorcycle when he was returning home after duty near Jagdev Kalan on Sunday evening, with police probing whether an old family dispute was linked to the attack.




ASI Sukhchain Singh sustained a bullet injury to his arm and is out of danger.




An investigating officer said police had recorded Sukhchain’s statement.




The officer said Sukhchain had expressed suspicion about the possible involvement of a relative over a long-standing family dispute. Police have not established the allegation and are probing it along with other possible motives.




Technical and forensic teams examined the spot, while police scanned CCTV footage from the area. An FIR has been registered against three unidentified persons at Ajnala police station.




The incident comes amid earlier attacks on ASIs in Punjab, including cases in Amritsar and Gurdaspur in which three ASIs were killed and another injured
