Patiala : Sri Anandpur Sahib MP Malvinder Singh Kang on Sunday directed officials to tighten monitoring of medicine supplies from neighbouring states and crack down on the illegal sale of habit-forming and restricted drugs in Punjab .
Chairing a meeting at the District Administrative Complex in Ropar , Kang ordered stringent action against medical stores violating regulations and called for closer surveillance of outlets in villages and towns.
Officials reviewed enforcement in Ropar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Hoshiarpur and SAS Nagar districts, including inspections, medicine seizures, cases registered and action against drug licences over the past two to three years. Pending cases, repeat offenders, illegal supply networks and the performance of drug control officers were also discussed.
Kang said the state govt had taken several measures to curb illegal sales, but concerns persisted over medicines entering Punjab from neighbouring states and being sold outside authorised channels.
He called for regular inspections, greater accountability and action to identify sources of illegal sales and dismantle supply chains. Pending cases should be disposed of promptly in accordance with law, he added.
Kang also sought a time-bound action plan for the entire Sri Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency, with clear targets, regular reviews and measurable progress. He stressed interdepartmental coordination and continuous monitoring to curb the illegal sale of narcotic and habit-forming medicines.
Drug inspectors from the four districts were directed to submit detailed reports on enforcement measures taken and planned. They were also asked to send details of decisions taken at the meeting to the health department headquarters for further action.
