Raipur : A major fire broke out at a tar-processing factory in the Urla industrial area of Raipur on Monday, marking the second such incident at the unit in recent months and bringing its safety arrangements under scrutiny. The blaze was brought under control by police and fire brigade teams, with no casualties reported.
The fire broke out around 1.30 pm while workers were present at the factory, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky that were visible from several kilometres away. Emergency teams rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations to prevent the flames from spreading to other sections of the facility.
A bulldozer was deployed to demolish part of a structure as firefighters used foam and worked from different sides to contain the blaze. All workers present at the time were evacuated safely.
ADCP North Zone Aditya Pandey confirmed that the fire had been brought under control and no loss of life had been reported. He said a case would be registered and the incident investigated, with further legal action depending on the findings. A tar leak during processing is suspected to have triggered the fire, although the exact cause remains unconfirmed. The extent of damage to the factory was not immediately known. Police said the previous incident would be examined as part of the investigation , which will look into the cause of the blaze and whether any safety lapses contributed to it.
