FARIDABAD: After allegedly shooting his neighbour Paramjeet Dhankar dead, a 42-year-old former regional business head of Tech Mahindra's Asia-Pacific region, a 44-year-old scrap dealer also tried to kill his son Shaurya, who escaped by taking cover behind parked cars on Friday night in Faridabad.
The accused, Mohan alias Monu Sharma, was arrested from DLF Chowk in Ballabgarh on Saturday, police said.
The accused alegedly opened fire at Dhankar and his son following an argument over vehicle parking in Sector 21C last night. While Dhankar sustained multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot, his son, Shaurya, managed to escape by taking cover behind parked cars.
Police said the accused fired around 14-15 rounds from his licensed pistol. Nine bullets are believed to have hit Dhankar, though investigators are yet to ascertain the exact number of injuries.
Parking dispute turns into deadly shooting
The shooting followed a long-running dispute between the two families over parking and a pet dog. The accused's son would allegedly make their pet dog defecate in the building's parking area, triggering repeated arguments between the neighbours.
Dhankar lived with his wife, son and daughter on the first floor of house number 641, while Mohan resided on the third floor of the same building.
Police said Dhankar had returned from the gym around 8pm when an argument broke out between the two men over vehicle parking. The altercation soon escalated, with Mohan allegedly pulling out his licensed pistol and opening fire.
The accused also allegedly targeted Dhankar's son, Shaurya, who managed to save himself by taking cover behind parked cars.
Investigators are also examining whether the earlier dispute over the pet dog contributed to the confrontation.
Earlier police complaint failed to end feud
The shooting came against the backdrop of repeated disagreements between the families. Five days before the incident, Mohan had allegedly abused Dhankar's son, police said.
A few days before the shooting, Dhankar's family had also approached the police with a complaint over the dispute. However, the matter was subsequently settled.
The circumstances leading to Friday night's confrontation are now part of the investigation.
Singapore-based executive had returned for wedding
Dhankar was employed with a private company in Singapore and had returned to Faridabad just two days before the shooting to attend his nephew's wedding, scheduled for November 24.
He originally hailed from Hisar.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he had earlier served as regional business head of Tech Mahindra's Asia-Pacific region.
He was currently working as senior vice-president of FPT Software Company Limited.
